Lunchtime Inspiration

Like I always say you never know when inspiration will strike you...today it was on a lunch break at the Cal Mart. On a quick trip to FedEx and the local juice bar I was stopped in my tracks by some beautiful textiles and trend boards displayed in the lobby. Trends that are very NOW and inspire a worldly bohemian vibe that is always prominent in downtown LA, Hollywood celebrity, and jettsetter chic.

California Pie

Thanks Murphy Family for sharing the BEST homemade pizza recipe I have ever had. I have made and dined on countless pizza variations and I have to say that this one tops them all. Try it out at home, you won't be disappointed!

The Stiletto

New obsession: Current/Elliot printed stiletto jeans. Today I had a chance to sample some of the Spring 12 Current/Elliot styles in the showroom and they instantly became my new favorite denim. First off, the fit is remarkable. Wether your a 24 or 28 this style looks fantastic on all body types. Then there's the prints! Oh the prints are just so good! Lemongrass, indigo, ultramarine, black and purple polka dot. Printed plaid, red rose, haystack floral, ditsy floral, tons of animal print and printed gingham. Spring12 collection is just so vintage/rocker cool and chic. I can't wait to see what they come up with for Fall12, showing next week at LA market.

Collars

Today I was asked about the industry terminology for different types of collars. What is a revere vs a notch vs a shawl collar? Everyone has seen many examples of each but what exactly categorizes one from another. So I thought I would share my findings. Revere collars proved the most difficult to find examples of until I previewed the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 show. Revere collars are the staple of the collection, so 50's proper housewife. A revere collar is defined as a lapel without a collar back. A shawl collar is a continuous lapel and collar in one. Think sleek Calvin Klien Oscar worthy glamour. And a notch collar, which I find the most common, is a collar with a space/seam between collar and lapel. Currently I am working on creating a pattern, cutting and sewing my own version of a revere collared dress. Wish me luck!
